NASA has told a group of Christian employees that they cannot put the Name “Jesus” in their club announcements in the NASA newsletter. NASA says that to have the Name “Jesus” in the newsletter violates the “Establishment Clause” of the First Amendment.
The “Establishment Clause” of the Constitution only prohibits the government from passing laws requiring people to be members of a particular religious denomination or organization.
It does not prohibit anyone from publishing the Name “Jesus” or from doing any other free exercise of religion.
The original intent of the “Establishment Clause” does not even prohibit the government from freely promoting a particular religion. Congress has even been involved in printing Bibles in the past. The “Establishment Clause” just prohibits the government from passing laws requiring adherence to any religion. If that kind of a law has not been passed, then the Constitution has not been violated!
These Christians’ rights to publish the Name “Jesus” in NASA’s newsletter is protected by the “Free Exercise Clause” of the First Amendment.
Here is what the First Amendment says:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”
Please contact NASA Administrator Charles F. Bolden, Jr. by calling 1-202-358-0001 and explaining to him that allowing Christians to publish the Name “Jesus” in the NASA Newsletter does not violate the “Establishment Clause” of the First Amendment, but that him disallowing them to does violate the “Free Exercise Clause” of the First Amendment. Please ask him to stop violating the Constitution and allow the Christians to use the Name “Jesus” in their club announcements in the NASA newsletter.

Please share this with everyone you can.
