20 year-old Aden Hailu’s life is in danger, and a licensed doctor in Nevada is needed immediately to give her proper medical treatment, which she is currently being denied by the hospital in Reno against her families wishes.
Aden went to the ER in Reno Nevada for abdominal pain. They did surgery and removed her appendix. After surgery her heart rate and breathing dropped. She was resuscitated, and placed on a ventilator.
Aden’s family wants her to receive medical treatment and live. Furthermore, there is no evidence that Aden would want to die in this situation.
However, the doctors and hospital claim that she is dead and are refusing to do any treatments. In addition, they want to remover her from the ventilator in order to harvest her organs.
Aden is not dead!
Here is the Nevada State law concerning the determination of death:
NRS 451.007 Determination of death.
1. For legal and medical purposes, a person is dead if the person has sustained an irreversible cessation of:
(a) Circulatory and respiratory functions; or
(b) All functions of the person’s entire brain, including his or her brain stem.
2. A determination of death made under this section must be made in accordance with accepted medical standards.
3. This section may be cited as the Uniform Determination of Death Act and must be applied and construed to carry out its general purpose which is to make uniform among the states which enact it the law regarding the determination of death.

Aden’s heart and lungs are still working.
In addition, her brain is still functioning because she is producing some TSH thyroid hormone. There must be brain function and blood must be getting to the hypothalamus for this to be possible.
Moreover, Aden’s body temperature and vital signs are normal, and the first EEG was normal. The last 2 EEG’s were not able to prove that there are no brain waves.
According to these facts, Aden is not dead, and to declare her dead is in violation of the law.
Aden’s parents believe that if she is given thyroid medication she will wake up. Her TSH levels are very low, and Hypothyroidism can put someone into a coma. The doctors are refusing to give Aden the medication, because they say she is dead.
The doctors are also refusing to give Aden a feeding tube. The only sustenance she is receiving is through an IV, and this is starting to cause some damage to her liver.
The District Court has ruled that the doctors and hospital do not have to give Aden any treatments.
The District court also ruled that only a doctor licensed in Nevada can treat her.
Aden’s parents are appealing to the Nevada Supreme Court, but that can take 3-6 months, and Aden could actually be dead by then.
Dr. Paul A. Byrne, M.D. has written an article for Renew America at http://www.renewamerica.com/columns/byrne/150706 asking for a doctor licensed in Nevada to step forward and help Aden.
In the Article he says “During the court proceedings the hospital administrator agreed to allow physician(s) licensed in Nevada, after the physician(s) has(have) been properly credentialed at their hospital, for that physician(s) to order (if he or she wishes) thyroid medication, a tracheostomy and gastrostomy. Having a tracheostomy and gastrostomy are necessary to facilitate transfer and care to a long term care facility or her home. If you are a physician licensed in Nevada and willing to evaluate this patient and participate in treating this patient, please contact me immediately.”
I personally cannot find contact information for DR. Byrne, bu a doctor may be able to.
